Here in lies the biggest problem in the church today- thank you Henry Blackaby for making this type of "mysticism lite" mainstream. I bet Miss Young would say she believes in sola scriptura- but in practice she shows that she finds God's Holy Word completely inadequate. However, the denial of the sufficiency of scripture can take many forms: The Shack, for instance, is built on the same premise- when life gets really hard, the Bible comes up woefully short and so you need some extra revelation to know who God REALLY is. Also Theophostic Ministry: in this type of "ministry"- Jesus comes to you personally in visions and speaks to you personally to help heal all of your emotional wounds. I actually participated in this before God opened my eyes to this doctrine of demons.
Thanks for this post- just found your blog- love it. Press on brother!

David...no problem...go where you believe the Lord is drawing you...and keep reading the Bible...good stuff.

We can agree on Jesus our Christ...and that Salvation is through Faith in Him.

God bless you brother.

If the Scriptures are not authoritative in matters of faith, what is? Our own perspectives? If Jesus tarries men like Rob Bell will one day be looked upon as we do Joseph Smith. I do not believe Bell knows what the gospel is anymore.

Communicative relevance must be approached with a profound concern that in our legitimate efforts to convey truth we change truth both to the hearer and to the speaker as well.

"God hasn't given up on the world" is as much gospel as "Gandhi hasn't given up on the world".

“If you want to know what you ought to be doing with your life, you ought to look at your shape. …If He wired you to be an anthropologist, be an anthropologist; if He wired you to undersea explore be an undersea explorer; if he wired you to make deals, then make deals. Did you know God smiles when YOU BE YOU. Some people have the misguided idea that God only gets excited when you’re doing spiritual things. …The bottom line is God gets pleasure watching YOU BE YOU” (Rick Warren on video speaking to attendees of a Technology, Entertainment, Design conference in 2006 as replayed by alittleleaven.com 02.01.2008 Pastor Rick Warren’s Lie). Nothwithstanding Ed Young’s remarkably similar phraseology to Warren in his UBU video, when Jesus began His Sermon on the Mount, He tells the attendees to be poor in spirit, to mourn over our sinfulness against God, to kneel before Him in submission, and to hunger and thirst for a righteousness not our own (Matt. 5:3-6). He goes on to say, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him” (Matt. 7:11)! When Jesus tells me I am evil, and to be broken and contrite over my sinfulness against God… and that I need to beg for His work to be applied to my life and need His Spirit dwelling in me, and others say simply YOU BE YOU, the contrast is stark. God is not pleased with any one who rejects His Son, regardless of what they are doing (see Psalm 7:11). And for those who receive His Son, He says, “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” and “in the name of Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 101:31 and Col.3:17 respectively). So, everything we do is a spiritual thing: an act of worship, or rebellion, before God

I do not know of Mrs. Young, but perhaps she is just making God's Word more personal and relevant. And in many ways what she did is what preachers do every Sunday. What if the preacher is teaching on God's comfort in sad times and yet I am joyous? Does that mean it is not for me?

I completey understand your concern for those who claim private revelation, but I am not sure that is what is intended in her devotional.

Alex,

You'll have to pardon me if I avoid the PP attack-fest that happens upon anyone that doesn't agree with Michael's definition of who is in line and who is out of line. The internet is big enough that you can enjoy Michael, and I can enjoy those who disagree with Michael.

Above all, I'll just stick with my Bible, discern what I believe the Lord is showing me personally, and leave it at that. I don't have to join the "unity" movement. Thanks anyway :)
